Presence and Dissociation

The Human mind dissociates out of presence, and we realize presence out of dissociation.

There's nothing personal about this occurring. It feels very personal, however it's not, it's survival and it happens to everyone. Learn to spot this for yourself so you can more assertively correct it.

What Is Presence?

There's this present moment we're in, and there's everything else.

Presence is the calm stillness the thought based mind gets provoked out of by stress. Eventhough it feels very personal, there's actually nothing personal happening with this; we all experience this very thing, though most people never talk about it.

Presence is our most natural state of being; We perceive from presence before survival based emotions sweep the mind into imagined time/space and produce thoughts. There is perception of and thought about what we perceived. Thoughts take time for the mind to construct, perception happens in and from this present moment.

There is presence and there is everything else.

Among many teachings, Eckhart Tolle distinguishes clock time from psychological time, which serves as a powerful construct for realizing presence.

What Is Dissociation?

Dissociation is the name for a phenomenon the survival brain uses to protect us from what it perceives as more danger / stress than we're able to withstand, by vividly imagining we are in another time / location / with other people, until the immediate threat passes and the survival system knows we are safe.

It does this by creating a day-dreamed reality somewhere else that sweeps our perceptive awareness out of this present moment, with the day-dream seeming more real and emotionally convincing than the present moment it's being produced from.
